The Hebrew word for peace is “shalom,” which means wholeness, completeness, and well-being. It is a state of harmony in every area of life, including relationships with God, others, and oneself.
Peace is a crucial aspect of the Fruit of the Spirit because it is essential for our overall well-being. Without peace, our lives can be filled with anxiety, stress, and turmoil. We need peace to thrive and to be able to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives.
The Bible teaches us that peace is a gift from God. In John 14:27, Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” This verse shows us that the peace that God gives is different from the peace that the world offers. The peace that God gives is a supernatural peace that goes beyond our understanding. It is a peace that can calm our hearts and minds even amid difficult circumstances.
As Christians, we are called to be peacemakers. In Matthew 5:9, Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” This verse shows us that peacemaking is a vital part of our identity as children of God.
