Joy Is A Choice
Joy is a choice that we make. Even when our circumstances are less than ideal, we can choose to focus on the good things in our lives and to trust in God’s goodness and faithfulness. Joy is not a feeling that comes and goes based on our circumstances; it is a deep-seated sense of contentment that remains even when things are tough. This is why Paul could write in Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” He knew that joy was not dependent on his circumstances, but on his relationship with God.
Joy Is Contagious
Joy is contagious. When we experience true joy, it spills over into every area of our lives. We become more positive, more grateful, and more generous. We begin to see the world in a different way, and we are able to share that joy with others. Joy is a powerful witness to the world, and it can draw others to Christ. As Jesus said in John 15:11, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
Joy is not just for the happy times; it is for all times. We can experience joy in the midst of trials and difficulties, knowing that God is with us and that He is working all things together for our good. In fact, James 1:2-3 tells us to “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Trials are an opportunity for us to grow in our faith and to experience the joy that comes from trusting in God.
Joy Grows Over Time
Joy is not just for the happy times; it is for all times. We can experience joy in the midst of trials and difficulties, knowing that God is with us and that He is working all things together for our good. Joy is a fruit that grows over time. It is not something that can be acquired overnight or by simply wishing for it. Rather, it is a fruit that grows over time, as one cultivates the right conditions for it to flourish. Like a plant that requires nourishment, sunlight, and water to grow, joy also requires certain conditions to thrive.
