Kindness In Action

The Fruit of the Spirit is a term used to describe the qualities that Christians believe should be evident in the lives of believers. These qualities are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Each of these qualities is essential to living a life that is pleasing to God and beneficial to others. In this article, we will focus specifically on kindness and its significance as a Fruit of the Spirit.

Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate towards others. It is an expression of love and concern for those around us. It reflects a genuine desire to help and support them. Kindness can be expressed through service, supportive words, and understanding.

In the Bible, kindness is mentioned many times, and it is often linked to God’s character. In Psalm 117:2, it says, “For great is his steadfast love towards us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.” God’s love and faithfulness towards us are expressed through acts of kindness and compassion. As believers, we are called to reflect this same love and kindness towards others.

One of the most famous stories in the Bible that illustrates the importance of kindness is the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). In this story, a man is beaten and left for dead on the side of the road. Two religious leaders pass by without helping him. A Samaritan (who was considered an outcast in that society) stops to help the man, even though it meant going out of his way and risking his own safety. This story teaches us that genuine kindness involves sacrificial love and a willingness to help others, even if it requires personal sacrifice.

As you reflect on your own life, think of those who impacted you in significant ways through their acts of kindness. How can you take their example as a template for your own life? Choose one person today who you will affect through an act of kindness.

Blessings!
